Assam: 4,000 checks distributed to women borrowers under AMFIRS in Karimganj
KARIMGANJ- On Sunday, the Minister of Environment and Forests, Fisheries and Excise, Parimal Suklabaidya, handed out checks to women borrowers under Category I of the Micro Incentive and Assistance Scheme. -Finance of Assam (AMFIRS) in Karimganj district.
Speaking as guest of honor at a reception hosted by the district administration at the playground of Karimganj College, Minister Suklabaidya who is also the Custodian Minister of Karimganj said that the program is a remarkable step taken by Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma led the state government to make women borrowers loan free. “The state government led by Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has realized the plight of female borrowers who have taken out loans for their financial needs. The program aims to free them from any loans and empower them financially,” he joked.
Suklabaidya said the BJP-led government has delivered on its promise to extend financial support to women borrowers who have taken out loans from financial institutions.
The minister said the government had had discussions with 38 financial institutions that provided loans to women and had signed a memorandum of understanding with them.
Of the total 32,467 recipients in the district, 4,000 Category I checks were presented at today’s ceremony.
Under AMFIRS Category I, a total of 11 lakh women will benefit across the state.
MPs, Krishnendu Paul, Bijay Malakar and Abdul Aziz, Former MPs, Dr.Sukhendu Shekhar Dutta and Pranab Kumar Nath, BJP Chairman of Karimganj District, Subrata Bhattacharjee, Chairman, Karimganj Development Authority, Debabrata Saha, Chairman of Board of Administration of SC, Karimganj District, Krishna Das among others were present on the occasion.
Deputy Commissioner Mridul Yadav presided over the ceremony.
