Loan agreement signed between Assam Skill University and AfDB
A loan agreement for the Assam Skill University project in Mangaldoi has been signed with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), paving the way for the establishment of a world-class skills university in Assam, a statement said. official on December 17th.
The loan agreement was signed between the Country Director of the AfDB Resident Mission in India, Takeo Konishi, and the Director of the Assam Skills Development Mission, Adil Khan.
Entrepreneurship and Skills Employment Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary called the event a major achievement that will pave the way for the creation of a pool of skilled labor in Assam and ensure employability of young people in the region.
Assam Skill University is being created as part of the External Assistance Project (EAP) funded by the Asian Development Bank. The project is estimated to be worth $ 140 million, including the 20% state share.
An additional grant of $ 1 million is also provided as technical assistance by the AfDB.
The state government has allocated 250 Bigha lands in Mangaldoi for university. The Assam Skill University Act-2020 has already been passed by the Legislative Assembly of Assam and the university has started its initial activities.
The university design and construction process was initiated in consultation and in alignment with AfDB policy and guidelines.
Construction work is expected to start on the land in Mangaldoi early next year and the university campus is expected to be completed by 2027.
The university’s vice-chancellor has already been appointed and the program will soon operate from a temporary campus.
According to the detailed project report, nine schools have been proposed for the university that will meet the needs of local entrepreneurs, start-ups and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) for technology, digital, business and solutions. skills.
