Philippines Credit Registry Reopens CIC Academy for Borrowers and Consumers
The Credit Information Corporation (CIC), the nation’s public credit registry and credit information repository, is set to launch the 2022 “CIC Academy” webinar series on February 18-28.
Opening sessions on “Credit Report and Credit Score: Assessing Creditworthiness in a Pandemic Time” will discuss the importance of these financial tools for improving creditworthiness and access to credit amid the COVID-19 pandemic. 19.
“In line with our mandate, the CIC Academy is our flagship program to raise awareness of borrower and consumer rights, including quick and immediate access to their credit information through the CIC Credit Report. The program will also educate the public about benefits of a credit information system to the economy,” said CIC President and CEO Ben Joshua Baltazar.
Launched in August 2021, the CIC Academy has successfully reached more than 6,000 participants who have had the chance to participate in discussions on various topics such as responsible borrowing, combating abusive lending practices, detecting credit card fraud, building a good credit history and obtaining business loans, among others.

The first series of CIC Academy webinars for 2022 will feature resource speakers from CIC and CIBI Information Inc., one of its accredited credit bureaus that publishes credit reports and credit scores at the consumption.
“We will demonstrate how the CIC credit report serves as a reputational guarantee that reflects your creditworthiness. Together, we will also break the stigma of credit, synonymous with financial difficulties, mismanagement and vulnerability, which should not be the case because it is essential to daily life and a tool for financial upliftment”, underlined the PCEO.
He further explained that a credit score is a value-added service provided by credit bureaus based on CIC’s credit report: “The higher your credit score, the more creditworthy you are perceived by lenders, which improves your chances of being approved for a loan and other financial services.Being creditworthy is a goal that everyone should know and aspire to achieve.
With approximately 30.7 million borrowers and over one hundred million loan agreements in the CIC database, the CIC Credit Report provides a balanced view of an individual’s credit history as it captures data from positive and negative credit from a wide range of lenders.
