State government signs loan agreement with Asian Development Bank to set up Assam Skill University project

The government of Assam has signed a loan agreement for the establishment of the Assam Skills University project with the Asian Development Bank.

The loan agreement was signed today between Takeo Konishi, Country Director, Resident Mission to India, AfDB and Adil Khan, Mission Director, Assam Skills Development Mission.

Entrepreneurship and Skills Employment Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary called the event a major achievement paving the way for the creation of a pool of skilled labor in Assam and ensuring the employability of young people in the region.

Assam Skill University is being created as part of an External Assistance Project (EAP) funded by the Asian Development Bank. The project is estimated to be worth $ 140 million, including the 20% state share. An additional grant of $ 1 million is also provided as technical assistance by the AfDB.

The state government has allocated 250 Bigha lands to Mangaldoi for the University of skills. It should be mentioned that the Assam Skill University Act-2020 has already been passed by the Legislative Assembly of Assam and the university has started its initial activities.

The University’s design and construction process was initiated in consultation and alignment with AfDB policy and guidelines. Construction work is expected to start on the land in Mangaldoi early next year and the university campus is expected to be completed by 2027. The vice-chancellor of the University has been appointed and the university will soon start operating in from a temporary campus.

According to the detailed project report, nine schools have been proposed for the university that will meet the needs of local entrepreneurs, start-ups and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) for technology, digital, business and solutions. skills.
